Some of my favorite apps – check back often for updates!

This basic finance app allows you to keep track of your purchases, savings and balances all in one place. What’s special about this app is that it also helps protect you from “grey charges” by notifying you of suspicious activity in your accounts.

Christmas List Snowball

Christmas List Snowball allows you Add/Delete an unlimited number of recipients and gifts, track spending, and many other cool features as snow ball effect when you shake your android phone.

Food Substitutes ($.99)

The food substitutes in this app are researched and written to try to help with anyone’s cooking situation – from that moment when you realize you’re out of the one ingredient that you need to finish your recipe, to dietary needs, to allergies, or more budget-friendly alternatives.

This finance app allows you to keep a watchful eye on everything financial in your life, from your bank account to your school loans. Mint also has lots of budgeting tools to help you stay in good financial health

Out of Milk

Is a grocery shopping app that helps you keep track of your food inventory at home and create your shopping lists.

This allowance and goal-tracking app teaches kids about spending, saving and financial priorities by serving as a virtual piggy bank. For iPhone and iPad.

This grocery app keeps you in the loop on which coupons can be used at stores in your area and lets you to load the coupons onto your grocery-store loyalty card.

This app is the ultimate coupon resource! It uses GPS technology to alert you to in-store and online deals when you enter any one of 3,000 malls, outlet malls and shopping districts across the country. You can curate the deals you receive so they are relevant to your shopping preferences. Promo codes can be saved and viewed again either on the app or on the site and you can also save offers on the site and view them on the app! You will receive alerts the day before your saved deals are due to expire.  *Disclosure, I work regularly with RetailMeNot on a contract basis, but this app does happen to be one of my favorites!

this innovative app keeps track of all of your online purchases, from the order details to shipping info. It also alerts you when a price has dropped on an item that you purchased and when an item that you have purchases has been recalled.

When you scan the bar code of an item, this price comparison app provides online prices and prices at local stores so you can decide whether to buy now or later. It also provides price history and product reviews. Shopsavvy is very similar to Red Laser but I think the scanner is better.  The one downside to Shopsavvy is that is doesn’t have the loyalty card feature that Red Laser has.

Loyalty cards weighing down your keychain or do you forget to bring them with you? Stocard is a one-stop shop for all your loyalty cards, giving you instant, easy access to all their benefits in one place.

White Noise Lite

If you’re a city kid traveling to the country, or vice versa, the unfamiliar sounds might make it tough to sleep. Set the app to play sounds that soothe you, whether it be trains or crickets, for a determined amount of time. Also great for group travel when you’re trying to drown out your uncle’s noisy snoring in the adjacent room!

Flight delayed? TripAdvisor’s Gate Guru provides you with a map of the terminal; lists of eateries, shops and services; general airport tips; and reviews of restaurants so you can choose wisely.

Lounge Buddy

Another resource for the delayed traveler is Lounge Buddy. If you want a place to work quietly, grab a shower or just get away from the crowds, Lounge Buddy can give you the skinny on the airport lounges, what you might have to pay to get in and their amenities.

If you’re road tripping, RoadNinja will help you find gas, a pharmacy or even sushi within 3 miles of your location using GPS. You can even take a virtual U-turn to check out the other side of the road. It’ll help you map out your trip, too!

Plan every step of your trip with this app. Simply create a profile and then forward the email confirmations for your flight, rental car, hotel, etc., and an itinerary will be created for you. You can also add reservations or plans to your itinerary, share it with others, create a custom itinerary and even search for alternate flights in case of a delay. If you travel for work and Tripcase is partnered with your travel program, your work-travel details will automatically appear in Tripcase after you download the app.

When you arrive

If you’re driving to or renting a car at your destination, this app will map out all the nearby garages with their rates, including discounts. Plan ahead by entering the address of your destination or use its GPS-enabled service for real-time info.

City Maps 2Go

A great maps app for walking or driving tours, this app delivers offline guides for more than 6,000 destinations. Download the guide of your choice (the first five are free) and it will show you landmarks, subways, historical buildings and more. Plus you can search for and save on the map everything from restaurants, museums and stores (or your hotel, so you can find your way back!). For more guides than the five the free version offers, get the Pro version for $2.99. Also, because the guides are downloaded in the app, you can use them without access to the Internet.

If you like to book travel through like I do, this app is essential. It stores all of your flight, hotel and car rental reservations on the app and provides flight information, like delays, confirmation numbers and gate changes.  It also provides hotel addresses and check-in times.

Free Wifi Finder

If you have to do a little work while you’re away, this app points you to the nearest hot spot for free Wi-Fi. If you’re traveling overseas, however, be aware that Wi-Fi can be slow and unsecure, so consider paying for unlimited mobile Wi-Fi from your mobile carrier.

Ready to navigate the city like a pro but want to skip the pricey taxis? Save some dough and take mass transit! The Moovit app provides maps, subway and bus transit times and least-crowded routes in 50 U.S. cities and 120 worldwide.
