So, what is “Beauty Secrets”? Beauty Secrets is where you can learn about the beauty-full inner workings of women who are moving and shaking in their world, whether it be beauty, personal finance or some territory in between.
Today’s muse is Alison Raffaele Tatem. I have known Alison for at least 20 years. We first met in the early days of founding beauty brands. Hers: Alison Raffaele Cosmetics, Mine: Three Custom Color Specialists. Alison started her career as Bobbi Brown’s head assistant, eventually becoming the First National Makeup Artist and International Trainer of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. She has amassed a stellar portfolio of print work and celebrity personal appearances and keeps very busy beautifying her clients for print and TV in the New York City Metro area.
Here are Alison’s beauty secrets:
- “Go to bed EARLY: Â If I don’t get at least 8 hours of sleep each night, I look and feel AWFUL! Â So after I tuck my 6-year old in, I generally wrap things up and call it a night. Â I know that doesn’t sound very glamorous, but it gives me the necessary energy and clarity to be my best, both personally and professionally.
- Pay attention to what my skin needs and treat it accordingly: You don’t have to spend a fortune on skincare, but you do have to use the correct products for your skin type – and please realize that your skin can change day-to-day, season to season and over the general course of time.  If I am wearing makeup I always remove it first with DHC’s Deep Cleansing Oil.  After that I wash my face with a CeraVe cleanser.  And as for moisturizers, my needs completely vary throughout the year, from a very sheer oil-free lotion in the summer to a thick, emollient cream in the winter.  But no matter what I always keep a jar of Alchmie Forever’s Kantic Calming Cream on hand, in case my skin gets irritated.  That stuff is magic!
- Go for a massage: Being a makeup artist I am constantly touching people and giving them my energy, so whenever I feel either physically or emotionally depleted, I go for a massage. There is a tremendous amount of healing power in a person’s touch, and a good massage literally does wonders for me There is a tremendous amount of healing power in a person’s touch, and a good massage literally does wonders for me.”
